Happy National Second-Hand Wardrobe Day!!
What? Never heard of it?!
Me neither, but it's pretty awesome isn't it? The point behind Second-Hand Wardrobe Day is to bring awareness to the Fast Fashion, disposable culture that has developed over the past decade. For me, shopping secondhand is usually a way to buy something sturdier (often made pre-Fast Fashion era) but is still stylish and doesn't cost me a fortune. I'm a cheap son of a gun, so style on a budget is like...heyyy girl, heyyyy.
There also seems to be a stigma still attached to buying secondhand. I'm not sure why; this never bothered me before. A top I am constantly complimented on is a Goodwill purchase originating from Express. I'm not sure I am allowed to touch the clothes in that store, so nabbing it for $4 at Goodwill was a nice way to wag my finger at the man.
What I'm saying is, if you're on the fence about buying secondhand or you look down on those who do...fine, whatever. But you're missing out. There's an amazing rush to finding something so unique in a thrift store. It's also nice knowing you're not filling up a landfill with a discarded skirt that ran you $60 three months ago.
I really enjoy using Poshmark. I've ordered a number of different items off of the site and I've never been disappointed. I also sell, so if you're in the mood for some fresh secondhand items check me out @shopcousin!
Show off your second-hand clothes today! Send me a picture of you in all your thrifty glory.
