Ten Things About Me

Tuesday, July 12, 2016

They say the best way to talk with someone new is to ask them about themselves; everyone loves to talk about themselves.  It's what we're best educated on!

However, talking about myself is something I find incredibly difficult and it's been a personal challenge recently to up my confidence and brag about moi.  Which is why I decided to jump in on this week's The Broke and the Bookish's Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Things About Me.  So, here's a push in a *positive* direction.

1. I want to be a writer when I grow-up...which will hopefully be relatively soon.  I just want to write words and if I got paid for them, that'd be cool too.

2. I started blogging because I was really depressed last year and was looking for something that motivated me and allowed me to make connections with people who hold similar interests.

3. I was a really good tennis instructor.  I'm not a great tennis player but I know I can teach anyone to play tennis and that was an awesome feeling.

4. One time, I was sitting in my office at my very first job after college and an older woman walked through the door.  She was lost and looking for a specific classroom to give a lecture.  She was tired so I offered her to sit down.  I spoke with her for a little while and it turned out she was a Holocaust survivor.  It was a moment that I realized in the moment was something truly special and I savored every second I had with her.

5. I love the color blue, but it wasn't my first love.  I loved the color pink first and I remember when it all changed.  Third grade, art class.  This girl Colleen who always had her act together (still does, just crept on her on Facebook...she went to Dartmouth) said blue was a cool color.  And like that, blue was in my heart forever.

6. Ninety percent of my day is spent daydreaming how my day could go and often I find myself confused as to what was real and what was imagined.

7. I am my father's daughter.  Sometimes, fighting with him is futile because we already know what the other one is thinking.  We also look ridiculously alike.  My poor mother.

8. Nothing in this world is as amazing to me as when a song really hits you in your gut and you can actually feel something.  Sometimes the feeling doesn't even match the lyrics to the song, but I'm flying high and I feel like I can see things through the song.  [This whole post is making me look like a nut.]

9. I feel like I messed the past ten years up since high school but because of that it's my motivation to not mess the next ten years up; hence, my newest adventure into graduate school!

10.  I'm incredibly self-conscious right now because on Saturday I went to my boyfriend's place for dinner with his family, who were in town visiting.  After a delicious home-cooked meal,we watched The Intern (awesome movie!).  Apparently, they caught me sniffing my hair the whole time.  It smelled like the food we just ate and it startled me each time I caught a whiff!  So now I'm wondering if I'm ever going to be invited out in public like a human or kept locked indoors...

  1. What a great list, Jen, especially number four. I would treasure that for a lifetime. Blogging has helped my anxiety a lot. I hope it has helped you as well. :)

  5. Love your post. Some really great stuff here. I've done the sniffing thing too....put in my case it was mainly the spot close to my sweater's shoulder that some sauce splashed onto. It drove me nuts all night.
I love finding a good song that really speaks to me too. I used to daydream that one day my life would be so cool and awesome that someone would make a movie about it and I would always plan out the fantastic soundtrack that would go with the movie....(I know....super silly). I love to daydream and whenever I have a few spare minutes I always let my mind go wild. Thank you for sharing all these lovely things about yourself and for stopping over at The Plot Bunny.

    1. OH MY GOD I'VE DONE THE SAME THING! Turning my life into a movie and what not, but I still haven't figured out what parts would be interesting to sit through for longer than an hour.

  6. Oh I daydream to. Everyday. I've tried to set goals for myself for NOT daydreaming and being more present in my every day life, but man it's hard!

  7. I attempted to learn to play tennis back in 6th grade and I was TERRIBLE at it! Haha! They let me take lessons with the rest of the team, but I never once played in a game because I sucked so bad. So... I feel your pain! :P

    Here are my Top Ten!

  8. Oh my goodness, the Holocaust survivor one... wow. That is such an incredible experience, and I am so glad that you were able to show her that kindness, it makes my heart happy. And I feel you with #9. So much. You are not alone, and I love that you're trying to turn it into a positive. I have been going through the same thing too, trying to like, use it as a motivation to move on. We can do it!! Thank you SO much for sharing these ♥
