Living At Home With Your Parents As Told By How I Met Your Mother

Thursday, June 2, 2016

Living at home with your parents can be awesome.  And not awesome.  It changes from moment to moment.  Drastically.  You'll never have a silent minute to yourself...ever.   So squeeze in between Mom and Dad on the couch and let How I Met Your Mother fill you in on all of the positives and negatives of living at home.

Positive: The laundry is usually done and not by you.

Positive: After a late night out, you don't have to pay for a cab to pick you up because Mom and/or Dad will probably still be up waiting for you anyway.

Negative: The next morning, your father calls you from the garage.  It's time to weed the garden!  But you're hiding in your room, quietly sobbing.

Negative: It also grows frustrating when you come home from a long day of work and your parents rush you the minute they walk in the door.

Positive: They know how to handle you when you're in "one of your moods."  I mean, they did get you through that massive tamper tantrum in the middle of JC Penney's in 1993.

Negative: You have to take pretty drastic measures to get out of family functions because your parents can physically see how "busy" you are.

Positive: There is always dinner waiting.  Food you don't have to make is automatically always so much better.

Positive: You need cash but don't feel like going to the ATM.

Negative: Privacy does not exist.  Someone is always there.

Positive: You were passed up for a promotion at work.  Dad's waiting for you when you get home with open arms.

Positive: There's the possibility of throwing a house party when your parents go out of town.

Negative: You still have to give your parents a pep talk every time you invite a friend over.

When it's all said and done, you know the parentals are driving you crazy and pushing your buttons for one simple reason: Love.

  1. Haha! from what my brother tells me, this is totally relatable :) and some of those positives are soooooo appealing!

  2. Haha, this is so brilliant! It makes me miss being at home so much. And makes me want to watch HIMYM again. :D

  3. Love this; it's so true, I'm in my late twenties and had to move back home. It's a roller coaster of pros and cons!

  4. SAMESIES!! I should have done one about moving back home after you've been out long enough to taste freedom lol

    1. It's a massive contrast isn't it, having to get used to the lack of privacy again etcetc! Although, I try and see it from their perspective also so I guess it can be tough either way :)
